My name is Rod McCormick and I am the agency owner of Rod's Custom Travel in Las Vegas, NV. My agency specializes in cruise vacations only, and whether you are considering a deep sea ocean voyage on a mega ship or the gentle environment of a river cruise, I will be happy to help you plan your vacation.
After graduating from Missouri State University and spending several years working as an accountant in corporate America, my personal love of travel-especially cruising-was such that it seemed a natural leap in opening my own travel agency-and I have never looked back!
For a travel agent to provide first-class service, education is paramount. Consequently, I have pursued a broad range of knowledge and experience, including classroom instruction, on-site ship inspections, and thousands of miles of personal travel through 85 plus cruises on a wide range of cruise ships world wide. Formal acknowledgement of these qualifications has been received through Cruise Lines International Association and from most of the major cruise lines, including but not limited to Royal Caribbean International, Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line, Regent Seven Seas, AmaWaterways, and Avalon Waterways.

This was my 3rd cruise and the 3rd time working with Rod. He was referred to me by family and I can say that working with Rod gives you confidence in your plans. As I thought about what to write on this review, it was hard to decide where to start. I found Rod online when pricing a cruise many years ago. He proved to be one of those treasures you are so grateful to have. Through the years he has helped bring us to Elite with Princess and never have we had an issue on his pricing, booking, efficiency, and referrals for land tours. He has proven to be on top at every point...even when I decide on a cruise at the last minute on a Sunday night....my email will ding and there will be Rod with answers and suggestions. for the icing on the cake for us, Rod has become a very special friend that I think highly of. This is the first time I’ve written this kind of review but I couldn’t let it slip by. I had never worked with Rod until I was looking for someone who may be helpful in planning and executing a travel experience of a live time. At first I was hesitant to put my faith in someone I didn’t know or hadn’t been referred to. Two other couples went on the cruise with me and my husband. From our early planning stage we found Rod to be an excellent travel agent. He always got back to us right away, answering every question. We have been working with Rod for over 15 years. During tha time he has responded to calls very quickly, always had answers, gave us direction on cabins etc. after 20 plus cruises he has never failed to leave us more than satisfied with his service. I should mention it was several years before I met Rod personally so we began our relationship “online” so to speak and I think that really exemplifies the type of customer service Rod gives...he took the time to find out what Jim and I wanted to accomplish with our travels and then proceeded to make that happen. He has traveled extensively so he is also able to recommend excursions, restaurants, etc for us. I don’t believe there is a more efficient, friendly, and delightful travel agent to be found. He has covered our travels from Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe with the same amount of diligence. We have booked over 40 cruises with Rod, but one really stands out. It was a 3 segment cruise of 11, 17, and 10 nights going around New Zealand, then on to Honolulu and Vancouver. We arrived two days early in Sydney only to find that the first segment had been cancelled due to ship mechanical problems. We immediately contacted Rod. He had been trying to contact us for hours. Around 6pm he called and got us a confirmed cabin on a ship leaving the next day on a 11 night So Pac islands. However, the cruise line (same as our cancelled cruise) wouldn’t accept payment in the US; we would have to pay at check-in. At 6am Rod called to say that the cruise line agreed to accept payment in the US and emailed our confirmation. By 11am we were onboard and had a great cruise. We boarded our original ship for the 2nd and 3rd segments. Several we met did not have a TA like Rod and spent 12 nights in Sydney until the ship was ready to go on to Honolulu. To describe Rod in one word = Awesome!

I have been working with Rod for many years and for many cruises. He has always been extremely responsive and has handled any problems that came up quickly. I first found out about Rod when many years ago I was using a site called CruiseCompete which was a place for you to get competing quotes from different travel agents. I posted the cruise we were interested in and said that we wanted three aft cabins on that ship. Several other travel agents sent emails saying that they could help with this if I contact them. The difference with Rod was that he emailed me saying that he found three aft cabins for us and he put them on a complimentary hold waiting to see if we wanted them. It is his proactive methods that I appreciate. I have been using Rod to book my cruises ever since.

Rod has been my cruise TA for 11 years, plus have referred him to friends and family. He is able to assist a first time cruiser find a cruise line that is a match for their needs and wishes. I typically know what cruise line and cabin type I want to book, so we have a phone conversation and he verifies pros/cons on my choice or alternatives. He has several contacts in the cruise industry that he has used to assist us in getting the dining seating we prefer, Rod's most important quality to me is that he is always "there" for me with very rapid response times...whether it be taking advantage of a price drop, a preferred cabin opening to transfer our booking into, or times where life's emergencies have caused us to cancel a cruise at the last minute due to medical emergencies. I TRUST Rod 100%. I know if I email him @ midnight...he will take care of an issue before I awaken the next morning! Too many of my friends are unable to reach their TA on weekends or after hours...and they loose the opportunity to move to a better cabin, or a price drop. I have NEVER had similar issues with Rod. He is the best! He supports his customers from when the book a cruise trough their sailing.

A jewel of an agent for cruises

I booked the first cruise with Rod around 2007.. I found him through a cruise quote website. I was concerned at first because he had no brick and mortar operation. I did my research about what questions to ask and contacted him. He had all the "right" answers including the fact that the cruiseline itself would charge my credit card (and not his agency...this is ultra critical when you book with an online travel agent). He was very easy to talk with and helpful (I was booking a Panama Canal cruise for a group of family & friends). After his help with that cruise, he became my GOTO person for booking cruises (I have been on 30+ cruises). He is very helpful (selecting a cabin, recommending one cruise ship over another, etc). I have booked many many cruises through him since and have referred him to at least 10 friends who have also booked. Before I found Rod, I booked with the cruise lines directly. Frankly, I found it very impersonal. I would get different agents or my agent would be off and I'd have to wait. I just booked a cruise with Rod and emailed him with an "URGENT" subject line because I had found a great price and knew it wouldn't last. In about 10 minutes, I got a call from him personally (he was in the middle of a retail store as it was after hours) letting me know he had a cabin on hold at the amazing price and we could handle details the next morning. THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! I recommend him without hesitation. He's fun to work with and very knowledgeable. He's been on many of the ships and can give personal reviews/insights.

Best way to plan a cruise

Rod is such a pleasure to work with - I wouldn't plan a cruise any other way. I've booked several cruises through Rod and have been more than impressed with him each and every time. He is very knowledgeable about the ports and the ships and offers excellent advice about booking entertainment and dining options too. We often take cruises that involve extended family and friends coming along as well and Rod always finds great cabin locations for the whole group to make it easy for everyone to get together. Booking a cruise through Rod is stress free, I know I don't have to worry about a single detail when he is involved. I highly recommend Rod, his awesome service allows you to start relaxing before you even board the ship, he really is terrific.

Our First Cruise Experience

This was our first cruise and Rod was invaluable!! He gave me tips and incites that I would not have even considered and it was extremely helpful. He spent several hours looking for two cabins across from each other so that the kids had their own and found us a great deal on them. I tried going through the cruise before calling him and his service was MUCH BETTER!!

I found Rod's Custom Travel quite by accident about 30 cruises ago, after I was aggravated by the travel agent I had used for several years prior.
What a wonderful stroke of luck! Rod has not only been an excellent agent for us for years, but I also consider him a good friend.
His response time is great - in fact I usually tell him, "no rush". But he never fails to get back to me quickly with resolution to whatever I need. Want to change a cabin? No problem. Need to change the date of the entire cruise? No worries. Wow, am I sounding like a really needy client!
He graciously reviews my insurance options every cruise (shouldn't I know these by now??!). He makes sure we have the best cabin; he is current and knowledgable about the ever-changing options/benefits/promotions of all the cruise lines we've sailed; and best of all he knows what we like, and makes suggestions accordingly.

We have been using Rod as our travel agent for well over 10 years. We first became involved with him on line and feel very fortunate that we did. People think it odd that we deal with a travel agent who lives in Iowa but it has worked well for us and we never received the attention to detail and knowledge from any agent locally. I can't really say enough good about him......he is extremely knowledgeable....organized.......efficient......friendly and always out to get the best deal, accommodation's, etc. for your cruise. We have been on a couple of cruises with him (customer appreciation) and he is fun to be around. I think if Rod decided to retire we would probably retire from cruising also........we have been spoiled!
He is not only our travel agent but a good friend as well.............

We had the pleasure of meeting Rod, owner of Rod's Custom Travel, Inc. in 2006 while enjoying a cruise aboard Cunard's Queen Mary Ocean Liner. It was quite evident Rod had not only a passion for travel but also was quite knowledgeable regarding the major cruise lines.. Since meeting Rod 10 years ago he has become our exclusive cruise travel agent as we have traveled the world on both large cruise ships as well as river cruises. His company is open for business 7 days a week and we really like he is so accessible. I have been very fortunate to have been an avid traveler all my life. I know what I personally need in a travel agent. In my many travels, I have been on 25-30 cruises, so I know what I am looking for when I cruise. I have never met anyone like Rod McCormick! He immediately became personally involved in my travel interests and has never let me down in the 14 years he has assisted me. He is very trustworthy and honest. Rod knows how to take care of planning a stress free cruise. He knows the cruise lines, the layout of the ships, the ports of call and never fails to give you his full attention. He has planned over a dozen cruises for me and I wouldn't think of booking a cruise without calling Rod. He has given me information on excursions, ground transportation, and even restaurants. He's always fast to respond when you have a question and if a problem comes up, he handles it immediately. We "met" Rod through an online service about 9 years ago, and since that time, we've booked over 60 cruises with his agency. Anyone considering a cruise should look no further ..all you have to do is call Rod and essentially sit back and wait for embarkation day to arrive, knowing that he will handle all the details ... and even the occasional headache. One of the great things about this guy is that he takes the time to learn and understand the preferences of his customers ... where they like a cabin to be located ... what is their dining preferences ... their insurances needs ... and he accommodates these preferences, without having to be asked or reminded! Rod truly cares about his customers--and he takes care of them with the same diligence and affection that he would use to take care of his own family. So ... you looking to book a cruise? I say again ... look no further ...

Friends recommended Rod to us in 2012. We had been using a local Travel Agent for over 20 years but decided to give him a try. After 28 cruises with him, we have never regretted it. Rod is very knowledgeable and always gets us the best deal. He checks before final payment is due and makes sure that we have the best possible price. Connecting by e-mail and the phone was different but we love talking to him and he always responds quickly to our requests. We did meet Rod on a cruise in December 2015 and have the Tee shirt to prove it. We are very happy that our friends recommended Rod to us and we are glad to tell everyone else how wonderful we think that he is. You will miss out if you do not give him a call or e-mail.

Without a doubt, Rod is the absolute best, and only, travel professional you will ever need for booking your cruise vacations. We’ve been with Rod for many years now, and with each new booking we are so thankful we met Rod and that he has our back. His knowledge of the cruise lines, ships, deck layouts, ports of call, excursions, etc. is unsurpassed. His attention to detail ensures that you’ll have the best information, price, and personal choices, when you make your reservation. He responds to phone calls and e-mails immediately – he’s always there for you.
He never stops working for you. Case in point, when our extended family of 10 decided to cruise, on relatively short notice, early seating dining was already full and the chances for all of us sitting together for meals was dim. Shortly before our departure date, Rod called to let us know he was able to procure early seating dining, and a table of 10, for us. As I said, he never stops working for you.
