Also known as the “Friendly Island” it is shared by two countries, France and Netherlands which provides a opportunity to explore these cultures without a border while visiting both sides of the island. It’s a 2 for 1 island experience! On one side it’s a bit like the South of France meets a dash of Caribbean spice. Small market towns with mouth watering pastries and French Caribbean Seafood dishes. The laid-back chic attitude leans itself to a relaxing holiday atmosphere. A visit to towns of Grand Case and Marigot offers tranquil secluded beaches with soft golden sand that just gently slides between your toes as you walk. Then enjoy a short trek to the Dutch side capitol Phillipsburg where there are quaint shops along the port and downtown. The town offers charming boardwalks, upscale restaurants, jewelry shops, casinos, and nightclubs. Spend a carefree day of duty-free shopping for souvenirs!St. Martin has some of my favorite beaches and dive / snorkeling sites. You can lay back on Maho Beachand watch the airplanes landing and taking off or go snorkeling with all the Sealife. On the French side there is Red Bay Beach - Picture yourself lying on the white sands with red rock and cliffs surrounding you. Another beautiful location is Orient Bay known as the “Saint Tropez’ of the Caribbean and it is located on the north eastern corner of St. Martin. The bay is one of the biggest and most popular beaches on the island. Because of its location there is a steady surf. You can also go jet skiing. But don’t worry about falling off, that is part of the fun! Or take a catamaran ride for a panoramic view of the coast and beaches. Orient Bay has great hotels, restaurants, and shops to complete any honeymoon,anniversary, or romantic getaway.With so many reefs and beaches St. Martin is a perfect place to get certified for diving. As a certified open water diver, I can tell you that this island has it all! The underwater world is magical with all the brilliant colors of coral and fish. Some of my favorite dive wreaks were the Tug boat and the Proselyte Reef a 32 gun frigate!I am often asked what are the best months to visit? It is ideal to plan a trip from December to April.
