Taste of Baja
Morning walk along the beach, Paradisus Los Cabos.
On a recent trip to Baja California Sur, Mexico, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food I encountered. Sure, I left my house looking forward to sun and sand - and hoping to catch a glimpse of whales as I was arriving at the starting point of "whale season" in this beautiful land. What I didn't expect was to be blown away by the food culture.
I traveled to Los Cabos as a familiarization trip with other agents. Our sole purpose of being there was to explore various resorts to determine if they were a fit for you, our clients. I'd been to Los Cabos before as a tourist, but it admittedly been quite a while and I hadn't actively explored beyond my resort and an art walk on my prior trip so I was definitely looking forward to discovering new adventures here. I also can be somewhat picky about food quality. So, I went on this adventure really expecting to be underwhelmed by my food experience - BOY WAS I WRONG!
The first evening at Paradisus Los Cabos was amazing - a starlight dinner with live band in their main courtyard just between the lobby and pool. I tend to warn clients that all-inclusives offer great amenities and experiences, but that the food can sometimes be underwhelming... this experience was anything but. Four courses later and I was hooked - surely the rest of the trip would never live up to this meal!
Over the next few days I was surprised again and again... from the beautiful breakfast "Ocean Yogurt" at Casa Maat (JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa) to the Chef's Table experience at Don Sanchez Restaurant in San Jose del Cabo - my tastebuds actually went into mourning when they discovered I was headed home to my own kitchen and daily cooking routine.
Not only was the food amazing, but the resorts were beautiful - each one uniquely perfect for the discerning traveler. I explored 10 resorts and came back with ideas for where my yoga groups, solo travelers, destination wedding experiences and families would find the most memorable experiences for their tastes.
And... we DID see whales! Our Captain and crew were amazing - happily abandoning our planned itinerary of snorkeling to acommodate our request to "chase whales" when a pair of humpbacks were spotted off the starboard side of our sailboat. We spent an hour watching a them forage before hoisting the sails and returning to sightsee the Arches, Neptunes Finger and other natural wonders along the Sea of Cortez.
All and all, it was an amazing journey! I look forward to sharing more with you - contact me and we'll discuss how to take these experiences and create your own bespoke trip to this beautiful destination!
