I drove by the Giza Pyramids on my way to work every morning for two years. Yet, everyday they always made me pause to appreciate their majesty. 

Egypt is a place where everyone “has a guy” or “knows a guy.” Having connections with the right people makes a huge difference.

I have those connections.I know the tour guide who led the Obamas through the Egyptian Museum. My friends and I breakfasted every Saturday with an award-winning, trustworthy fine goods and antiques business owner. (He’s refurbishing an antique chess table for me right now.) I’m good friends with a British and Egyptian couple who train Arabians for horse beauty shows and ethically offer tourist rides in the desert. The list goes on and includes various pillars of the Egyptian tourism industry.

There are obvious reasons why Egypt is on everyone’s bucket list. It holds the history of humanity. The amazing thing is we can still see traces of small detail within the huge temples, like the original red paint on pillars. The Tomb of Nefertari holds unmatched color from ancient days. From the Catacombs in northern Alexandria (Lower Egypt) to Abu Simbel in the southern desert (Upper Egypt), I’ve personally explored nearly all of the historical monuments, diverse museums, popular scuba sights, and desert adventures.
