Glacier Bay National Park

If you are looking for your next great adventure, look no further than Alaska.  I have experience the grandeur of Alaska 6 times via cruising.  I could go back to visit every year if possible, it just seems there aren't enough days in a year to do all we wish to do.  Holland America is the premier ocean cruise when visiting Alaska, as they have acquired all of the best locations when docking in each port due to their history in Alaska.  My favorite port of call is Ketchikan because it is very compact and easily walkable.  Holland America docks right at the center of town, and you literally walk off this ship and almost into a shop.  Ketchikan is known for totem poles, but when I visit, I love heading out to the George Inlet Lodge for the "all you can eat" dungeness crab feast.  If you like crab, this feast never disappoints and at the end you get a delicious cheesecake dessert with blueberry sauce on top!  Skagway is known for the Yukon Train ride, or it is a great place to take a helicopter ride to a glacier.  The zipline in Skagway is great fun, and I experienced it with my father 5 years ago when he was 80, such a wonderfully fond memory.  In Juneau, Holland again has the best docking location in town, right at the Goldbelt Tram (formerly Mt. Robert's Tram).  There is so much to see and do in Juneau, and one is a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center, and you can get there via the local transportation system (bus).  The center is a great source to learn about the glacier fields in Alaska.  After a spot of learning in the center, you might want to take a hike to the Nugget Falls Trail to get a closer look at the glacier and hear the roar of the falls.  My most recent trip to Alaska, we visited the town of Sitka, which has a lot of Russian influence.  Our excursion included a 2 hour ride on a zodiac boat, and then on to Fin Island Lodge where an "all you can eat" king crab and prime rib meal was waiting.  The zodiac ride was awesome, and our guides were very knowledgeable and were anxious to share all things - Sitka, Alaska.  There are so many excursions that I cannot even begin to expand on each one, but rest assured, you will not get bored or run out of things to do.  Holland America also has wildlife experts come on board, so you get even more knowledge while cruising.  One thing I really look forward to is the day we spend visiting the glacier.  Holland America is one of 3 cruise lines allowed to visit Glacier Bay National Park, and they spend hours at the glacier slowly turning the ship so everyone has a chance of seeing/hearing the glacier.  They also serve hot split pea soup on the lido deck for those who enjoy a nice warm soup on a chilly afternoon.  If you book a balcony stateroom, you could also order hot chocolate via room service and enjoy the day viewing the glacier while sipping hot chocolate out on the balcony.  No matter the excursion, your experience in Alaska will be unforgettable, and leave you wanting more.
