It overlooks the vivid blue bay from its summit on Corcovado. The concrete icon is located in Tijuca National Park where it can be accessed by rail - about 3.5 kilometers to the top. Finished in 1931, the monument was sculpted by a Brazilian engineer, Heitor da Silva and a Polish-French sculptor, Paul Landowski. Both soapstone and reinforced concrete went into its construction.If you travel the railway to the sculpted artwork, you can also visit trails in the beautiful national park. Hikers enjoy trekking the large wooded preserve, which is home to waterfalls, springs, and a tropical assortment of butterflies, plants, and birds.  Whether you travel for business or pleasure, you’ll also want to visit Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro - the round rock peak that rises high above beaches and the illustrious city. Here is where you can enjoy spectacular views of Rio. Ride to the top in a suspended cable car.
