Besides Hollywood studios, one of the great and relaxing places to go is Santa Monica Pier and Beach. Sitting just west of the center of downtown LA, Santa Monica Pier is a great place to go to eat delicious cuisine and enjoy the nightlife. The soft sands of the beach and ongoing pleasant weather make the site a wonderful place in which to escape. In fact, Santa Monica Beach, which served as the main backdrop for the Baywatch TV series, sees, on average, 200 days of sun per year. You can explore the area on foot or by bicycle. If you go by bike, take the scenic 22-mile bike trail, which is called The Strand. It runs next to the Pacific Ocean and runs through Venice, Hermosa, and Redondo beaches. You can ride the large Ferris wheel at the pier or take time and just watch the buzz of activity at the Third Street Promenade. The site is also home to a roller coaster, carnival games, food vendors, and sit-down dining. You can visit the pier anytime, day or night. One of the attractions in LA that is free to enjoy is the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Stroll the walk of fame on your way to the TCL Chinese Theatre, which was originally called Grauman's Chinese Theater. In fact, most of the notable celebrity names and handprints are featured between the 6800 and 6900 block of famous Hollywood Boulevard. This particular location, fortunately, happens to lie right in front of the theater. The theater, which opened in 1927, is a true representation of the Golden Age of Hollywood. A tour of the theater costs $18 for adults or $8.00 for kids and $14 for seniors. Tours run from 10:15 am to 7:00 pm every day of the week with the exception of Monday.
