Ontartio, originally, was one of four provinces that joined the Canadian confederation in 1867. The name, at the time, was “Upper Canada” while Quebec was known as “Lower Canada.” The name of Ontario comes from Lake Ontario which comes from the Huron language for “great lake.” Besides the two percent of the people who are aborigines, immigrants from the world over have left their influence on Ontario’s culture and landscape. As a travel agent representative for Ontario, I am continually fascinated and intrigued by what the Province offers with respect to history, attractions, and activities. To give you an idea of the geography of this popular Canadian locale, Ontario is the second largest province in Canada after Quebec. Lying between the James and Hudson bays in the north and the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River in the south, the province is bordered by Quebec to its east and the U.S. in the south. The province of Manitoba lies to the west. The provincial capital of Toronto influences Ontario's economy as does Ottawa, the national capital. Ontario is home to over 14,000,000 people.
