How did I get started? I started in travel in July 0f 2000, trying to be all things to all people, and not doing very well. I eventually got an old beau to let me arrange her family's reunion cruise to Cozumel in 2010. I actually escorted the group to make sure everyone had a good time, and people started asking how THEY could get a group cruise organized.

That blossomed into a business focused on group cruises, which we still operate as a second focus. In February 2012, I had my right leg (below knee) amputated. I was relegated to a MANUAL wheelchair. But I had a best friend back in my '70's California college days who was a paraplegic. Robert and I were together a lot of times. I watched him maneuver in a manual chair with such ease.

So when I woke up in the hospital with half a leg gone, my 1st thought was "What would Robert do?" I ran my business from the chair until I took a trip to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands in 2013. I had a NIGHTMARE of a time on the island getting into bars, stores, and clubs, even crossing streets by the cruise port!! When I got back stateside, I lamented to my late father about all the issues I had had during that 2-month island ordeal. He says to me "Why don't you come up with a way to help people in wheelchairs who want to travel?" I replied "THAT'S A GOOD IDEA, DAD!"

And The Wheeling Traveler was born.

I’m the Travel Agent who specializes in creating Dream vacations for individuals and families with physical challenges, seniors, veterans and their families, and anyone with disabilities or special needs. As an amputee myself, I live what YOU live. We will handle every nook and cranny of your trip planning down to the most minute detail, so there are no unwanted surprises. We'll even pick you up from your house!

I am a Certified Travel Associate by the Travel Institute, the industry's primary education entity, and MORE SPECIFICALLY, I am a Certified Accessible Travel Advocate by The Special Needs Group, so I LIVE AND BREATHE Accessible Travel. I've actually taken cruises staying in a wheelchair, even though I have a prosthetic leg myself, JUST to show the perspective of a wheelchair user on a cruise. I have those videos available for my clients.

I've taken it a step farther, by getting involved with the Accessible Travel efforts  by mass transit agencies in cities I've lived in, including Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Richmond, VA (where I also commandeered a wheelchair user protest of a City Council meeting to fighting fare hikes and service cuts in local paratransit services. We won a 6-month freeze on the cuts!)
