While visiting Bhutan, I was invited to a Festival

Like the Bhutanese, I believe in 'high value, low impact' travel. I also believe that there is no better way to have an authentic experience than to immerse yourself in the culture you are visiting, no matter where you travel. Honu Adventures was established to introduce adventurers to authentic experiences in explorations around the world, and in particular, Bhutan, Hawaii, Mexico, Asia some while enjoying a cruise.

I'm James, owner and travel adviser of Honu Adventures. Honu is the Hawaiian word for turtle and represents the navigator, and the eternal link among people, the land and the sea. I'm a lifelong traveler and proud member of the Travel Quest Network, ASTA, CLIA and the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association. My goal is to change my client’s perspective on the world, and perhaps lead people to see diverse cultures in a new light. 

My first taste of international travel came in 1959 when my family emigrated to Scotland. We sailed from Boston to South Hampton on an Ocean Liner. These were ships designed to transport passengers without the thrills and fine food of today's cruise ships. Since then, I’ve travelled around the globe, including many places in Asia and Europe, a smidge of South America and of course our continent, including extensive travel in Mexico. I also lived in Hawaii for over a decade and am a Hawaii Destination Specialist. 

My most recent trips included the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan (Which I fell in love with), Hawaii, many places in the Caribbean, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Thailand, Mexico, among others. I've also  recently completed my eighth cruise this year, spending 12 glorious days in the Southern Caribbean and Central America. This year, I have sailed on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Holland America and MSC Cruises.

A Bit More About Travel to Bhutan

Think of Bhutan as an all-inclusive, except instead of being in a resort, you have the run of the whole country. In addition supporting the tourism infrastructure, your visitor fees include, food, hotels, transportation in country, entrance fees and your guide. You just need to pay for sundries and such.

But, Bhutan has a "High Value-Low Impact" tourist policy so most travel has to be arranged through a Bhutanese tour company, and that's where we, in conjunction with local tour company Gomo Adventures come in. We will facilitate all aspects of your journey,  work to help you decide on an itinerary, help you navigate the visa process and do all the coordinating with Bhutan.
