Personalized Rainforest Luxury in Costa Rica

Private Breakfast with Arenal Volcano View
Private Breakfast with Arenal Volcano View

Costa Rica is easily one of my favorite countries in the world and it's why I keep finding ways to return & experience more. Our most recent visit began at surf camp in Tamarindo. Considering we were both first time surfers, something told me we would be seeking rest, rejuvenation & downtime together in the days that followed.

When we arrived at Nayara Tented Camp after a beautiful drive through the rolling hills of Alajuela Province, I immediately knew we had chosen a luxurious paradise - a well deserved Leading Hotel of The World. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted with smiles and a cold towel to wipe away the day's drive. A complimentary refreshing watermelon mint drink was enjoyed while the concierge checked us in and accompanied us to our home for the next few nights, our private Luxury Tent with mesmerizing views of Arenal Volcano.

Our natural hot spring pool, heated by the volcano itself was a peaceful place to start the day while listening to the birds and rainforest life around us, before our indulgent breakfast was delivered and set up on the terrace each morning. While this resort feels secluded, you'll be pleasantly surprised by how easily it is to get into town, to the hiking trails, nearby waterfalls and more if you're feeling ready to explore.

Something I'll never forget about this stay was the level of service provided by every single staff member. They knew us by name, remembered our preferences and even remembered me making a small comment about how "seeing a sloth in its natural environment had always been on my bucket list". One of the drivers had tried to call our room after spotting one. Although he couldn't reach us, as we were making our way to check out the many hot springs around the property, another staff member found us and said "Ms. Edmond, would you like to go see that sloth now?" An experience that would've bypassed us had we been at another resort was fulfilled here by exceptional staff that honestly felt more like friends and family by the end of our stay.

I certainly thought I wouldn't top finally watching an active sloth high in the trees, but we continued on to those hot springs I mentioned and while soaking in seclusion, we heard a rustle in the distant trees. I have never been more speechless than I was to realize I was witnessing a mama, father & baby howler monkey navigating their way through the forest. The dedication this resort takes to preserving the environment is clear by the abundant flora, fauna and wildlife that exists here.

We ended our last night at Nayara the best way we know how & that was with a private spa treatment in their naturalistic open air spa rooms that come complete with full jungle views and a feeling of serenity. Followed by a romantic farewell dinner at their Italian dining venue.

A true once in a lifetime trip that makes you see why they call this place Nayara...defined as a "fruitful gift".
