Week of Relaxation in Punta Cana

Andy and I visited Dreams Macao Beach in Punta Cana a few weeks ago. He earned this trip as part of an incentive at work, but we opted to go down a day early and get a little bit extra relaxation that was much-needed. Upon check-in at the preferred lounge, our butler, Domingo, met us and took us to our room. He was awesome - he checked in with us on WhatsApp multiple times a day, and every morning he would send us the day's activity schedule.

We were in a Preferred Club Junior Suite, and this was our view for the week! The resort was absolutely beautiful. The main pool is where the majority of the entertainment activities were held throughout the day. As a preferred guest, not only do you get a butler, but you have access to the club lounge, and there are 2 preferred pools, an adults only pool, where we spent most of our time, and a preferred family pool. There is also a designated area on the beach for preferred guests.

In the room, we had an upgraded mini-bar and upgraded bath amenities, and there was even a pillow menu, where you could request different pillows. We had a tablet in room, where you could view restaurant menus, check the activity schedule, and so much more. We also downloaded the Hyatt Inclusive app, which did the same thing the tablet did. On the tablet, we were not able to order room service, we had to call, but on the app on my phone, we were able to order room service. There are many times we ordered room service from the pool, and then went up for a mid-day nap.

We arrived on Sunday, and after we unloaded all of our luggage into drawers and the closet, we went to grab a bite to eat - for dinner that night, we went to Portofino, the Italian restaurant. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the food options all week - everything I had was delicious! I had shrimp risotto as a "starter" and then lasagna for my entrée, and Andy had a tomato cream soup and chicken parmesan for his entrée. His chicken was a little overcooked, but he enjoyed the spaghetti and sauce.

Monday, we splurged and rented a bali bed for the day! You can rent them at the beach or at the pool. I much prefer the pool, so we opted to do one at the adults only pool. There are 2 packages for the bali bed, depending on the bottle of wine you choose. You can also ask for just the bed without the alcohol, which we found out after the fact. Though the experience was nice, I doubt we will do that again. You really only paid for the bottle. All of the other lounge chairs at the pools have oversized umbrellas and there is wait staff for both drinks and food that is complimentary. Plus, there is the grill open during the day that is a super quick walk that you can self serve food when you get hungry.

J. Ventura was the concierge at the adults only pool, and he was awesome - he welcomed us every morning when we arrived at the pool and reserved us a spot. That evening, we at a welcome cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres. This was held overtop of the Oceana and Barefoot Grill restaurants, called Top of the World. It was beautiful up there. One night, there was supposed to be a wedding reception up there, but due to the rain, they had to move it underneath. Dreams Macao Beach is a very popular location for destination weddings - when we arrived, we were told that they schedule over 600 weddings a year. There were at least 3 weddings while we were there, and they were all beautifully decorated!

Wednesday was excursion day. I, of course, chose a massage - I will NEVER pass up an opportunity to hit up the spa. Let me tell you, it was HEAVENLY! Andy went golfing with some of the other earners, at Punta Espada, in Cap Cana. He said it was absolutely amazing - I did some research, and it was ranked Golfweek #1 best golf course in the Caribbean and Mexico in 2020. Pictures do not do this place justice.  These are just some of the excursions available in Punta Cana. The last time I visited the Dominican Republic, I went ziplining - talk about a once in a lifetime experience!

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the resort - it was smaller than the Dreams resort we went to last year in Playa Mujeres, but it made up for it in the view we had! I just felt like the layout was much nicer - everything was easily found. Andy was kind of worried about it not having a Secrets next door and that it was going to be overrun with kids, but we mainly stayed in the adults only area. I could definitely see myself bringing Aubree back - they have a lazy river and a water park. There was also an arcade AND bowling - these were both for an additional fee, but it was cool to have that option! The resort also had kids clubs, depending on the age range of kids. I think couples and families would both have a great time here, for sure!
