2 Perfect day trips from Lisbon

Sintra + Pena Royal Palace
Sintra + Pena Royal Palace

While Lisbon is a city that has it all, day trips are always fun! Two favorites I recommend are going to Sintra and Alentejo Wine Region.

Sintra:

The World Heritage Site of Sintra is a town of palaces, landscapes, culture, and art. Here you'll lear about the ancient myths of Celtic bards, the Moorish legends, the passions of the Christian Reconquest and a masonry that makes this site so unique in the world and so magical!

There were several romantic figures that have passed in Sintra.

From literature to music, the town of Sintra has inspired various figures and dazzled others with its mystical and charming environment. A visit to the historical center of Sintra with its traditional narrow streets full of flowers and local craft shops, viewpoints, and local traditional sweet shops is a must.

Pena Royal Palace is nearby and some would say is the star of the show! Pena Royal Palace is considered to be in the 10 of the most beautiful palaces in the world!

A real enchanted palace and one of the most beautiful examples of the romantic revival of the 19th century. Built on the site of a former convent of friars from the Order of St. Jerome. A fantasy from King Fernando of Saxe Coburg-Gotha. A palace with a complexity of styles: neo-Gothic, neo-Manueline, neo-Islamic and neo-Renaissance.

Alentejo Wine Region:

Once you arrive to Alentejo, it is time to start your day with lunch with regional and local foods. Set against a tranquil landscape, the restaurant I recommend has an outward focus, using local materials that define the architecture, favoring both authenticity and comfort.

After lunch, I suggest visiting the vineyards! Located in the heart of the Alentejo and part of the Wine Route, you'll visit the vineyards, the kitchen, gardens and vineyard field. Try the regional products, unveil the secrets of how we the wines are made during your visit to the wineries and cellars, Challenge your senses with a wine tasting and decide which is your favorite!
