Why I love Kyoto

Torii Gates
Torii Gates

No trip to Japan is complete without a visit to Kyoto. Kyoto is home to everything traditional in Japan - temples, geisha, sacred tea ceremonies, traditional cuisine, kimono, the bamboo forest, shrines and more.

Kyoto is home to more than 2,000 temples and shrines and 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I recommend visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha, and walk among thousands of Torii gates. I also recommend visiting the Golden Temple, formally called Kinkaku-ji. For history buffs, I absolutely recommend having a guide for the day to see these temples and shires. If history isn't your thing, you can easily visit these sites on your own.

Nature lovers, be sure to visit the Bamboo Forest. If you have more time, take a day trip to Nara and be immersed with deer roaming around!

Around sunset, I always recommend going to the Gion district. You'll see geishas walking around, which is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Have dinner in Pontocho, a district with small, walkable alley ways and restaurant overlooking the river.

Kyoto is a must visit in Japan!
