My family chose this resort a few years ago for a multigenerational trip; the biggest draws for us were the Unlimited Express passes and the 6-minute water taxi rides to the parks, but so many other aspects contributed to its standing as our favorite Universal resort.

Steven Spielberg helped design this resort after the town of Portofino, Italy, where his family enjoy vacationing. (Many newlyweds dreaming of Italy but wishing to save choose to spend their honeymoons here because it's such a close imitation!)
The relaxed yet sophisticated vibe is evident as you meander through the cobblestone streets, gazing at the picturesque lagoon, smelling freshly baked bread and listening to the beautiful live music: by day, you'll hear instruments and singers serenading guests as they enjoy their mouthwatering pasta and gelato, and in the evening, treat your ears to the talents of the opera singers as they dazzle the crowds from an elegant balcony overlooking the piazza.

The understated elegance evident in the architecture has been carried through to the guest rooms, which range from 450 - 4,195 square feet. Club-level access is available, and includes access to personal concierge service, nightly turndown service, and access to the 3,500-square-foot Portofino Club Lounge serving continental breakfast as well as complimentary beverages and snacks throughout the day. Portofino Bay also offers Despicable Me Kids' Suites, which include a special Minion-themed bedroom for the youngsters.

The three pools at Portofino Bay offer something for everyone. The peaceful retreats of the Villa and Hillside pool allow you to bask in the sun surrounded by palm trees and charming Italian villas, while the family-friendly Beach pool features a white-sand beach leading to a zero-entry pool, a Roman aqueduct-themed waterslide, ping-pong, and a convenient quick-service food and drink bar to keep you fueled as you enjoy your time in the sun. If you'd prefer to continue to bask in the comfort of your lounge chair while sipping on a delicious concoction, look no further than the QR code attached to each chair that will bring the drinks and snacks directly to you.
