My first day in Antarctica!!

My first landing in Antarctica did not disappoint!!

We (as in me and all of my ship mates) saw so many penguins, three seals and we were the first people to visit this island this year!

Being the first people to visit meant that the island was filled with snow (from my guess, it was about ~2 feet). Our expedition guides cleared some pathways for us to use to walk on and explore for the first time in Antarctica!!

I mentioned above it was our first “landing”.

When visiting Antarctica, you go via small ship (~130 guests) and when you get to land, the ship will anchor in the water near by.

From there, you will take zodiac boats (small boats that hold ~10 people) from the ship to the land.

You are on land for about 2-3 hours, weather depending (and of course if you want to leave early, you can have a zodiac boat take you back to the ship)

But, when you actually go to land, that is what is called a landing.

For my 9 day excursion, the goal was to do 2 landings for 5 days, which we were able to do! In Antarctica and on expedition cruising, everything is a goal because you never know what will happen with the weather!!
