Why a Disney Alaska Cruise is Perfect for Families
The Disney Wonder embarks from Vancouver British Columbia and sails through Alaska’s Inside Passage visiting Stikine Icecap, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan in Alaska on a typical 7-night cruise. 8 and 9-night cruises may also visit Sitka, Icy Straight Point, and Hubbard Glacier.
Culture
In each port that you visit there are an abundant amount of opportunities to learn about the local culture. From the First Nations heritage in Vancouver to the Tlingit culture, and the effects of the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska. In addition, Disney also has multiple Alaskan Naturalist Presentations on board featuring local experts.
Adventure
With so many amazing choices in port adventures, the hardest part is often choosing which ones to participate in. Whether you crave adrenaline or prefer a more laid back slower-paced vacation there is a perfect adventure choice for you. More adventurous travelers may choose port excursions such as Seaplane, float plane, or helicopter excursions to the glaciers, zipline expeditions, ATV expeditions, Jeep backcountry adventure, kayaking, or the sled dog experience. Parents with young children or those who are looking for something at a slower pace may want to choose excursions such as trolley tours, scenic railway tours, gold panning adventures, lumberjack shows, city tours by amphibious duck vehicle, the Mount Robert Tramway, whale watching tours, or perhaps the glacier explorer.
Nature
“To the lover of the wilderness, Alaska is one of the most wonderful countries in the world.” - John Muir.
Spoken over a century ago the words still ring true. On your Alaskan adventure, you will most likely see bald eagles, mountain goats, harbor seals, sea otters, sea lions, puffins, orca whales, humpback whales, salmon, and bears. While sailing through Alaska’s Inside Passage you will be in the Tongass National Forest which is the largest national forest in the United States and is mostly a temperate rainforest. From rugged mountains, vibrant flora, and fauna, to the blue ice of the glacier the beauty in Alaska is endless.
Onboard Activities
There is something for every member of your family aboard Disney Cruise Line’s Wonder. For the younger crowd there are the youth activity clubs; Disney’s Oceaneer Club (ages 3-12), Edge (11-14), and Vibe (14-17). Every member of the family can enjoy the heated pools and character meet and greets. Be sure and make time to get your picture with Mickey and Minnie in their Alaskan outfits. There is also the sports activity deck for those wanting to shoot a few hoops. If you’re looking for something a little less active though, the two theaters on board are a great place to catch a screening of a new flick. And unique to the Alaska itinerary is the Freezing the Night Away deck party featuring your favorite friends from Frozen. And if you need a little pampering don’t forget Senses Salon and Spa, for mom and dad, and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for your special little Prince or Princess.
