Alaska Cruises Summer 2022

Mendenhall Glacier Juneau Alaska
Mendenhall Glacier Juneau Alaska

In the summer of 2022, I was able to visit Alaska two times. In June of 2022, I visited Alaska on a Princess Cruise round-trip from San Francisco. This 10 day cruise was the perfect mix of relaxation and discovery. Sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge was an incredible way to get the cruise started. We visited Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan and sailed Glacier Bay. It was an incredible voyage, and would highly recommend it to anyone who has the time for a 10 day sailing.

In September of 2022 we had the opportunity to visit the great state of Alaska again. This time we started our journey in Anchorage. We did an amazing tour of Turn Again Arm and really got to see a lot during our land stay. We decided to take the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Whittier where our cruise was departing. We sailed on Holland America's Nieuw Amsterdam. I have a video on the stateroom posted on my YouTube channel @vacationsbyandrea, go check it out and be sure to subscribe.

This voyage took us from Whittier to Vancouver. This time a 7 night sailing on the popular inside passage. While we visited the same ports this time we opted for different experiences in port.  We road the White Line Train (video on my Instagram page @andreaaugertravel), we also sailed Tracy Fjord and saw some incredible calving from the glaciers, and some incredible scenery along the way. We opted for another small boat sailing to Misty Fjord. While spectacular and scenic, we would likely to not do two boat trips as excursions on our next Alaska trip.

After the sailing ended in Vancouver we stayed at the conveniently located Pan Pacific Hotel (walk right from the disembarkation straight to hotel). We had a lovely, and very large room that faced the harbor. While in Vancouver we took in local sites like Granville Island, Gas Town and the Steam Clock, we did a hop on hop off tour with a stop at both Granville Island and Capilano Suspension Bridge and Tree Tops. This was an active tour and very scenic.  Amazing totem poles and the suspension bridge is worth the white knuckles.

Our next adventure to Alaska is sure to include an interior land portion to include Denali, Mt. McKinley and more.
