ALLURE OF THE SEAS INAUGURAL SAILING

Many cruise lines claim to have something for everyone but the Allure of the Seas truly delivers. The quality of their entertainment and numerous activities can keep even the most active traveler busy. There was live music playing somewhere on the ship almost constantly and usually from numerous locations. The Royal Promenade which is where you enter the ship is full of shops, restaurants, bars and lots of seating. One of the main focal points is a large oval shaped bar that slowly raises and lowers constantly. Throughout the cruise, this bar doubles as a platform and stage area. There are 2 separate platforms that are also used for live band performances, dancers, and singers. One platform is actually hidden inside a sphere and rolls out for special events.

Every night and most afternoons there are special activities in the promenade including dancing, themed party nights, and a very moving military appreciation event. In addition there are multiple venues for entertainment including the Amber Theatre, Aqua theatre, ice skating rink, comedy lounge, Jazz club, and "live" stage bar and lounge that specializes in karaoke and group participation events. Most of the bars and lounges also include areas for individual performers or small bands and dancing.

The promenade also hosts the "anchors away parade" which includes ALL the cast and crew members who work in entertainment. This includes the casts of all the shows including the aqua theatre, ice skating, musicals, comedy, musicians, sports and Rec leaders, and even the kids club employees. Together, they dress as sailors from all different time periods and areas of the world. They dance, jump, yell, and parade around with huge set pieces and extraordinary costumes. The best part is that they truly seem to enjoy it and their excitement in contagious. This parade easily rivals any you'd find at a top Orlando theme park. As a bonus, guests are very close to the action and really feel apart of the experience.

The number of specialized skill and talent aboard the ship is truly amazing. There are talented musicians who perform constantly in various genres, Broadway level actors and actresses, Olympic and professional level ice skaters, and stunt divers all performing on a MOVING SHIP!

For guests who prefer to be IN the action. The Allure has them covered as well. There are 2 surf simulators called "Flow riders" in addition to a large mini golf area, Zip line, and multi-sport court. Depending on the time of day the sport court hosts basketball, volleyball, tennis and pickleball. There are 4 pool areas and so many hot tubs I lost count. A large splash pad and swimming areas for younger kids. There is also a small circular 'lazy river' type pool. If you prefer to lounge, sunbath, swim or soak without kids around, the adult only Solarium has plenty of space. When you need additional relaxation, excitement, or exercise you can head to the spa, casino, gym or track. There are even fitness classes on board including spin/cycle, yoga, and group classes.

There are also additional areas to explore, relax, eat, and enjoy including the very green "Central Park" and very energizing "Boardwalk." Central Park reminds me of Central Park NYC, especially the area near Tavern on the Green. The boardwalk reminds me of Coney Island or Atlantic City. It even has a working carousel, Zoltar machine, hot dogs, arcade, ice cream shop, and funny mirrors.

I could go on and on. I didn't mention any of the specific shows I saw, but they were all fabulous, or the many fantastic meals I had (room service is always a nice plus). I could list the amazing specialty cocktails and specialty restaurants but it would takes days and I still couldn't tell you about it all. The bottom line is that: THIS SHIP IS A DESTINATION!  As you travel from your departure point to your first cruise port you'll be so immersed in activities and entertainment you may have trouble leaving the ship. So make sure that whenever you go on the Allure that you leave yourself plenty of days and nights to enjoy this amazing ship!
