Exploring Egypt

The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut
The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut

When people ask my favorite place to go, Egypt is on the top of my list (along with Alaska)

We all know about the pyramids and the Sphinx, which are right outside Cairo, but there is so much more.

The ancient temples, like The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, 5000 years old still tell us stories. Of course I was fortunate enough to have a guide that could translate and explain the tales.

When you see pillars that are 40 feet tall, carved with history and colors that have lasted many millennia, one has to ask, how did they do it? Our guide explained the how and it is impressive. Yes, they know how the pyramids were built.

Of course, the Nile cruise was relaxing and full of delicious treats. I am a fan of Middle Eastern food and was not disappointed.

Alexandria had a personality all its own, a delightful mix of city vibe, old and new. The iconic library offered up ancient texts along with modern tomes. I could have spent many more days exploring that colorful metropolis.

Many of the Pharaoh's tombs have been raided and decimated, but there are a few you can still explore and take in the amazing art and craftsmanship.

Of course if its a museum you want, the Cairo museum is worthy of its world renown.

I learned a mere page of thousands of history and was awestruck at the knowledge of medicine, architecture and so much more.

The world is full of wonderful places to visit and I want to see as much as possible, but Egypt needs another visit.
