The Amadeus Silver sailing the Danube.

We boarded the 180-passenger Amadeus Silver for our 8-day Danube river cruise in the charming German town of Passau. The Danube Rhapsody sailing would take us first to Austria's Melk Abbey, a stunning baroque Benedictine abbey built between 1702 and 1736. The next stop was Austria's capital city of Vienna where we toured the city, visiting the Hofburg Imperial Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral and Schönnbrunn Palace. You really need more than one day to explore this lovely city though. 

Budapest was our next stop where we enjoyed a night time cruise along the Danube with stunning views of the Hungarian Parliament building, St. Matthias and the Fisherman's Bastion. With our stateroom's drop-down panoramic window we had a wonderful view along the waterfront.

On our way out of Budapest we chose an excursion that included visits to the artists' village of Szentendre, the ruined fortress of Visegrad - offering an amazing view looking down on the Danube - and finally to Esztergom, the former residence of Hungarian kings and the seat of the Archbishop. The domed basilica, pictured here, was built in the early 19th century and is the largest cathedral in Hungary.

As we made our way westward again we spent an afternoon exploring the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava where they have many unique and fun bronze statues. Our last stop before returning to Passau was Linz, Austria; home of the famous Linzer Torte (cake).
