Pantheon, Rome

A few years ago my family had the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in Rome.  Ask my kids, and they will tell you it was probably the best vacation they ever had.

We rented an apartment near the Colosseum, never took a taxi (we walked or took the bus, train or metro), and if our girls wanted gelato, they had to order it in Italian! Needless to say cioccolato and stracciatella became their favorite words.

Our family learned Rome quite well, and had the time to visit the less-touristy attractions; the Borgehese gardens, Ara Pacis, Testaccio and day trips to Ostia Antica and Tivoli.

The Roman people welcomed us generously; children are adored by the Italians. It was a vacation to remember - not because of the luxurious accommodations,  but because we had time to pause, learn special nuances about the Italians and the city, laugh and explore as as family.
